December is our annual "Hacker's Night" meeting for CiNPA. Hacker's Night is organized by members of our own Security Special Interest Group (a.k.a. the CiNPA Security SIG). This year we will kick the meeting off with a presentation on "Why Script Kiddies Succeed" by Matt Scheurer. Matt will be followed by Deral Heiland, who is our feature speaker for the evening. Speaker Bios:

Matt Scheurer (https://twitter.com/c3rkah) serves as Chair of the Cincinnati Networking Professionals Association Security Special Interest Group (CiNPA Security SIG) and works as a Systems Security Engineer in the Financial Services industry. He holds a CompTIA Security+ Certification and possesses multiple Microsoft Certifications including MCP, MCPS, MCTS, MCSA, and MCITP. He has presented on numerous Information Security topics as a featured speaker at many local area technology groups and large Information Security conferences all over the Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky Tri-State. Matt maintains active memberships in a number of professional organizations including the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM), Cincinnati Networking Professionals Association (CiNPA), Financial Services - Information Sharing and Analysis Center (FS-ISAC), and Information Systems Security Association (ISSA).

Deral Heiland CISSP (https://twitter.com/percent_x), serves as a Research Lead (IoT) for Rapid7. Deral has over 20 years of experience in the Information Technology field, and over the last 10+ years Deral’s career has focused on security research, security assessments, penetration testing, and consulting for corporations and government agencies. Deral also has conducted security research on numerous technical subjects, releasing white papers, security advisories, and has presented the information at numerous national and international security conferences including Blackhat, Defcon, Shmoocon, DerbyCon, RSAC, Hack In Paris.

GDPR - Mike Carr - August 1, 2018

GDPR – What do US-based IT Professionals Need to Know?

The European Union’s most-recent privacy regulation, GDPR, requires EU companies to safeguard and keep confidential EU citizen personal data (among many requirements) but it also requires a bit out of non-EU companies—companies that may just happen to collect, process, transmit or store the personal data of an EU citizen.  This brief overview of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is geared toward the latter and will be focused on discussing “What exactly do US-based IT professionals need to know about this European law and how will it affect our future?”

Bio

Mike is the Director, Enterprise Information Security & Compliance for Hillenbrand, Inc.  He earned his Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University, his M.B.A. from the University of Cincinnati and his M.S. in Computer Science from the University of Dayton. Mike is a certified information systems security professional (CISSP), a certified information privacy professional (CIPP), a certified member of Infragard, a licensed attorney in Ohio and Kentucky, an information assurance consultant and a frequent lecturer and adjunct faculty in the areas of IT security, privacy, information technology, IT ethics, organizational development, intellectual property law, and business law. Mike is also a KCBS Master Certified BBQ Judge.

Why we went to the Cloud - Douglas Johnson - June 6, 2018

This presentation is from one of our own - Douglas Johnson.

We had issues we could not fix with our current environment so went with a cloud solution.  We used the cloud to resolve a specific issue instead of moving everything to the cloud.  Now when we create a new environment, we consider going to the cloud as one of the options.

Douglas Johnson - Quality Assurance Test lead for University of Cincinnati IT organization.  UCIT is not the only IT organization at UC but the largest.  UCIT has application development group, Infosec, Operations, Networking, E learning and Electronic classrooms.

Marc Steiger is a tax and financial professional with over 25 years’ experience in financial management. Marc is a graduate of Clarkson University, where he obtained a bachelor of science in Accounting and Law, and then went on to becoming a CPA in 1987.

Hacker/Security Night - December 6, 2017

Matt Scheurer is going to deliver a presentation on Active Defense. He will be spinning up his Proof Concept site soon! Matt has got some incredible ideas to help the bad guys hack themselves. Given the popularity of the Jolly Roger Telephone Company meeting, Matt thinks the group will enjoy my methods designed to frustrate the bad guys. :)
