For our May meeting, we are trying a different format.

Instead of a traditional vendor presentation, we will be hosting a guided group discussion based on the ideas in the book Enshittification by Cory Doctorow.

The term “enshittification” describes a pattern many of us have experienced: platforms and products that start out highly useful gradually decline in quality as companies shift priorities toward monetization, lock-in, and control.

This will not be a formal book club. Reading the book is optional. We will begin with a short overview of the key ideas and then open the floor for discussion.

Topics we expect to explore include:

Vendor lock-in and loss of customer leverage
Changes in product quality over time
SaaS and platform dependency
AI-driven services and long-term control
Strategies for maintaining flexibility and independence

We are also collecting input in advance through the registration form.

Q: “What product has gotten worse since you started using it?”

If you have an example, we encourage you to submit it when you register. We will incorporate responses into the discussion.

As always, this will be an informal and interactive session. Participation is encouraged, but there is no pressure—come ready to listen, share, or both.
